Medicine ball exercises have made a strong comeback in recent years. Where once they were predominantly used in boxing and football, they are now being used in a multitude of sports and home workouts. Medicine balls come in various sizes ranging from 6 to 15 pounds and can be purchased with double handles making it easier to work with a partner if you wish.
The benefits found in medicine ball exercises are seemingly endless. They can be used to increase abdominal strength, arm and leg muscles, and the lower back. While there are plenty of exercises you can perform on your own, working with a partner is generally more effective. A typical workout session can be performed in as little in a half an hour if done correctly and usually performed two to three times a week.
One of the reasons I like medicine ball exercises so much is that they can be done almost anywhere. If you're like me there just isn't enough time in the day to go to the gym. Between work, dropping the kids off at school and picking them up my day fills itself all on its own. That's not mentioning soccer practice, baseball games and all the other extracurricular activities that come with having kids.
Being able to do these exercises at home once the madness of the day has started to wear down helps keep me in shape. They are easy to do and very effective. It also sets aside some time in the day for just me and my spouse. Three days a week may not be much, but between are schedules finding time to be together is tough. For us, doing medicine ball exercises not only keeps us in shape but is also a better alternative than watching television.
Just remember that doing medicine ball exercises isn't enough. Your body is your temple so to speak. Along with the exercises your diet is just as important. Exercising seven days a week is just about meaningless if the only thing to do to feed your appetite is fill it will fast food. There needs to be a balance in order to completely reap the benefits of a totally harmonized body.
So in closing, if your looking for something to do to get back in shape I urge you to try some medicine ball exercise. Not only is it convenient to do, as in you can do it almost anywhere at anytime, it's very effective. And on top of it all, it can be very fun. If done correctly, three days a week at about 30 minutes a day will work wonders on you so long as you keep to it. Remember, any type of exercise you choose will be a commitment you will need to make to yourself in order to see any results. Only trying it sporadically once in a while will be of no use.
So what are you waiting for! Go out there and get started. You might just have an entire new wardrobe to purchase just in time for the summer months!
