Coricidin Cough And Cold » Best Cough Syrup For Adults To Stop Cold Put To Sleep

Take Fewer Sick Days This Winter

The cold season is here in force. Maybe you've already fallen victim. I've already seen many patients this season who have. They've got stuffed up, runny noses. They've got sinus headaches. Coughs. Sore Throats. Fatigue.

Many of them ask me for antibiotics. I gently tell them that antibiotics won't help to treat a cold. Colds are caused by viruses, and antibiotics don't work against viruses. My usual prescription for a cold is to get some rest and drink lots of fluids. It's not original, but it works.

This age-old advice for getting over a cold isn't the only thing that works. Today, I'm going to share several natural remedies that will help you get over your next cold faster.

Beat the Common Cold in Three Days or Less

One of the biggest complaints I hear about the common cold is that it tends to stick around. For some people it's a week or two before they feel completely better.

If you catch a cold, give these remedies a try. I've had patients report that these methods cut their sick time in half.

Get rid of a stuffed up nose overnight: You can "unstuff" your nose by sleeping in socks. Actually, you need two pairs of socks. One should be cotton, the other wool. Before bed, wet the cotton socks thoroughly with cold water. Wring them out, put them on, and then put the wool socks on over the top of them. Then go to sleep. In the morning your nose will be clear.

I'll be honest. This method isn't pleasant. But the unpleasantness only lasts about two minutes, and it really does work.

Tasty relief for a sore throat: A sore throat has got to be my least favorite part of a cold. When I was a kid my mother used to make me a drink with grapefruit juice and maple syrup. It was hot and tasty and helped my throat immensely. When my mother made this remedy, she would put a whole grapefruit in a pan with water and bring it to a boil. Then she'd juice the grapefruit. You don't have to go to all this trouble. Just mix one-half cup grapefruit juice with one-half cup water. Heat it up and stir it two tablespoons of real maple syrup.

Instant sinus relief: Another miserable part of a cold is the sinus pressure. Oregano essential oil is great for clearing your sinuses. It also boosts your immune system, so that's an added bonus.

Now, please don't drink the oregano oil. Instead, bring a pan of water to a boil. Place the pan on a potholder on a low table. Add ten to fifteen drops of oregano oil to the pot. Lean over the pot and place a towel over your head to trap the steam. The steam will help loosen the mucus and phlegm in your respiratory system. The oregano oil will help kill the virus that is making you sick. Oregano is spicy, so it might make your throat sting and your eyes water a little. Stick with it though-you will feel better for it.

Natural relief for your cough: To relieve a cough, make a tea with thyme. Pour one cup of boiling water over two tablespoons of thyme. Let it steep for fifteen minutes, then strain the water into a container. Add a tablespoon of honey. Put the liquid into the fridge. Take a teaspoon every hour over the course of the day. You'll find that you cough a lot less. This remedy is not one that you should take over a prolonged period. Stop use after a day or two.

Antibiotics won't work for a common cold, but these natural remedies will help relieve your symptoms and get you feeling normal again fast.
