The construction of an igloo village was set up in the Austrian Alps. In the beginning of the next year, a village made of ice and snow will be opened near the Kitzbühel ski resort. It will be designed for 25 guests.
The idea of building houses from ice smote the German Benno Reitbauer after he visited Finland, where he stayed overnight in an ice tabernacle - igloo. The experimental village appeared in Austrian Alps 4 years ago, and the last year, as said by the architect, it has become a fashion to stay overnight in the houses made of ice at the height of 1700 meters. Four such villages were built last winter. Twelve people take part in the construction. They put the pieces of ice around the air-balloons, and then let the air out. In the village near the fashionable resort Kitzbühel the guests will sleep in sleeping-bags on the icy beds, covered with reindeer skins.
The architect says that the ambient temperature in "igloo" is pleasant, and pajamas are enough to feel comfortable at night. The guests, especially those from the big cities, feel themselves uncomfortable not because of the cold, but because of the silence. A restaurant, a recreation area, a small church and an ice tabernacle will be also opened in the icy village. The creator of the village admits that not everyone can afford living in an ice house. "The adventure costs a pretty penny," he says.
Last time
It is really some kind of mode in the last time to build hotels or other resort establishments out of ice. There is for example a worldwide bar network where everything is made of ice and the visitors are offered fur coats at the entrance.
